Preparation and intention
A strong motivation helps you through the (sometimes difficult) process. If you have doubts or your intention is not yet clear, please wait so that when you are ready you can experience the maximum effect of the ceremony .
The moment you decide to participate in an Iboga ceremony, the preparation already starts. This can happen unnoticeable but you may have (other) dreams or feelings. It can be enlightening to keep a journal of your dreams, feelings and thoughts in the build-up to the Iboga ceremony. Be aware that you made this step to live in more freedom and consciousness.
There are no special diet rules but try to be as conscious as possible with your food (especially meat and dairy) and drinks.
What you can expect during your ceremony is unpredictable. During the evening/night several doses Iboga will be taken. The effect of the Iboga is usually noticeable after a few doses. It has a slow and powerful build-up. Some people see images/pictures (which can clarify the process on the subconscious level), some experience emotions, some have a more psychical reaction. If you’re working mental/emotional issues out of your system, quit often the clearing process is also a physical process. Trust the intelligence of the iboga, that all is good what’s happening in your process at that moment.
Because of the Iboga you access a different level of consciousness but you never lose consciousness. Iboga brings you deep within yourself in this moment, it brings you more into the here and now. It is possible a communication will arise in which your questions will be answered by words or feelings or new insights can be shown which might help you to become more conscious in daily life. Iboga makes you reflect and aware of your actions and the consequences. Iboga breaks through the wall which has kept you prisoned from living a free life. It is possible that your mind goes into an overdrive and tries to play tricks to undermine the process. Trust that all these phases will pass and that Iboga has an intelligence that transcends the human mind.
Iboga knows what it needs to do and how to do it. Iboga is a root and digs deep into your subconscious to dissolve issues. What you can do during this ‘operation’ is give the steering wheel to Iboga and take place on the passenger’s seat. Trust and surrender are always of great service but certainly in this transformation process. As said before, your mind can sabotage you, make you doubt yourself or cause other emotions. Always return to your trust and surrender to Iboga. Know that Iboga is your ally during this ceremony and takes care of you in a unique way. Observe what is happening but don’t get involved. Stay on the passenger’s seat. If you experience chaos in your mind in daily life and Iboga is working on it, it is a complex situation to unravel everything that is interlocked and create new paths. What exactly happens is (until now) not clear and goes for beyond our own intelligence. Iboga unlocks your potential just as many other spiritual paths do.
After the ceremony
It is possible that you won’t get much or any sleep during the ceremony. Iboga is a very intense process that needs time and rest to integrate. Iboga continues working in your system for a while after the ceremony. Compare it with an operation where you also need to rest in order for the wound to heal and not start doing things to fast which will slow down the healing process. We advise you to at least take a couple of days or a week off after the ceremony to achieve the maximum effect of the Iboga transformation process.
Spend time in nature or do some yoga if that feels good. Now that Iboga has opened the door for you and has given you back the steering wheel, it’s up to you to continue your awareness- and transformation process.
In combination with certain medication it has been found that Iboga is a potential health danger. Be aware of this. Medication such as antidepressants, beta-blockers and medicine to reduce blood pressure are a contraindication. Also medicine for heart problems is a contraindication. When doubting always contact your doctor.
Psychiatric indications such as borderline, schizophrenic and (predisposed) psychosis are also contraindications. If you are under treatment (not by own will) of a psychologist or psychiatrist, you should first discuss your participation and hand in a written approval of the psychologist or psychiatrist.
Medical indications such as heart problems, liver problems and high blood pressure are a contraindication for using Iboga.
